Castrul roman de la Tihău (comuna Surduc)
Din nefericire numele antic al așezării de pe malul Someșului este necunoscut. În interiorul fortificației (aflată astăzi în hotarul satului Tihău) a fost campată o unitate de cinci sute de soldați infanteriști. Se numea cohorta întâia a Cannanefatilor, în latină cohors I Cannanefatium. Unitatea a fost recrutată din tribul gemanic localizat pe Rinul inferior, in provincia Germania Inferior. Deținem puține informații despre unitate sau despre membrii săi, singura evidență epigrafică certă fiind cărămizile și țiglele purtând ștampila cu numele său cât și diplomele militare menționând unitatea militară cel mai devreme în timpul domniei lui Hadrian. Merită adăugat faptul că un detașament (vexillatio) a legio XIII Gemina a realizat lucrări edilitare în castru la o dată necunoscută.
THE ROMAN ARMY UNITS AND THEIR FORTS IN SĂLAJ COUNTY
The Roman fort from Tihău (Surduc commune)
Unfortunately, the Ancient name of this settlement on the banks of Someș river is not known. Inside the fortress of the modern day village of Tihău camped a five hundred men strong infantry unit. It was called the first cohort of the Cannanefati, in Latin cohors I Cannanefatium. The unit was recruited from a Germanic tribe located on the lower Rhine river in the province of Germania Inferior. We possess little knowledge about the unit or its members, the only strong epigraphic evidence being the bricks and tiles bearing its name and military diplomas mentioning the unit as early as Hadrian`s reign. It should be added that a detachment (vexillatio) of legio XIII Gemina did some construction works in the fort at an unkown date.
